Mastitis (TMI)

Thursday night I started feeling a little pain like I had blocked duct. This is probably the 8 or 9th one I've had since I started nursing the twins. I never got one with Ben but now I get them constantly. This time it actually is Mastitis not a blocked duct. Yesterday was horrible. I felt awful. I had a constant headache that wouldn't go away and a temperature of 100.9 I couldn't wear a bra. You couldn't even touch my boob, it was so sore. I called my doctor to make an appointment. The only one they had was in 15 minutes and there was no way I was going to get there in time. They told me to go to Urgent Care so after Jim got home from work I went.

The doctor said it was Mastitis but it wasn't horrible. He was glad I came in when I did. He put me on an antibiotic and told me to follow up with him on Tuesday.

So today I started feeling better except I could still feel the blockage. I took a hot shower this morning and tried to express some milk. What came out was gross. It looked like pus. It was stringy and thick. This evening I sat on the couch and tried to express some more. Nothing would come out of the one blocked "hole" So I kept squeezing. I felt a little pop and a tiny ball of milk came out. Then when I expressed, pus just poured out. It's really gross. I just expressed more and its still stringy and I've had a couple more "pops" then pus/milk pours out. The pressure is lessening. I'm still taking the antibiotic to clear up the infection. Hopefully it will go away soon.

that sounds painful and nasty, but at the same time, it probably feels so good every time you get more of that crap out of you. you are such a trooper for continuing to nurse!

Wow! I'm so glad you got medicine and that stuff is finally coming out. Gross. I'm morbidly fascinated though. I had no idea that milk would come out so weird like that when you have mastitis. Maybe not always? My older sister had it but maybe she was embarrassed to mention that part. :)

Oh MAN! I'm so sorry you're going through this - that sounds absolutely awful. I'm glad that you're feeling better though.
