Potty Training and other Changes

One of my least favorite parts of being a mommy is Potty Training. So you can imagine my dread when we had twins, knowing that I would have to do it with both of them at the same time. (Which is probably why the twins are almost 3 and aren't potty trained yet.)

Well it looks like we are on our way. Two things surprised me about Potty Training. #1 I'm not doing them both together. They decided to do it one at a time. One of them is more ready than the other one. Which leads us to surprise #2. Will is the one who is ready first. We were pretty sure it was going to be Ellie. But she doesn't really have any interest in it. Will on the other hand wants to go all the time (usually right after I take his diaper off to change him) He hasn't pooped on the toilet yet but he's doing pretty good with pee. I think tomorrow we are actually going to try underwear.

I am going to give Ellie a little bit more time. She's starting to get interested so hopefully when Will is done She will be ready to go.

Next up - getting rid of pacifiers. They already know that on their birthday we are getting rid of them. We talk about it all the time. I'm trying to prepare them for it. Its not going to be fun but it's time.

For those of you who read my blog on reader, I updated it, Come check it out and tell me what you think. It's totally different. :)

One Week

The babies are now on solid foods. In one week they eat a total of 42 jars of baby food, half a box of rice cereal and half a box of oatmeal. For breakfast they each eat one jar of fruit and 1/4 cup of oatmeal mixed together. For dinner they each eat one jar of vegetables mixed with 1/4 cup of rice cereal and one jar of fruit. Sometimes they will share a jar of vegetables instead of each eating their own depending on how hungry they seem.

They each go through 5 -6 diapers a day, which totals 84 diapers a week.

Thankfully Ben is POTTY TRAINED now!!!!! He's been only had 3 accidents since last friday and he's been dry every morning when he wakes up! We only have to buy 2 sizes of diapers now. YEAH!!!!!

We weighed the babies tonight by having my dad stand on the scale then I'd hand him a baby. According to our scale Ellie weighs 13 lbs and Will weighs 20!

Here's a couple cute pictures of them :) Because I can't resist
And the silly ones

Potty Training, Teeth and Weaning

We've been working on potty training Ben which hasn't been fun. All week I've put him in underwear. If he had two accidents in a day I'd put him in a diaper. So everyday this week he ended up in diapers about noon (one day he made it until 2). I haven't been able to figure out any that would work to get him to pee in the toilet until today. On my friend's facebook page she talked about these bullseyes for the toilet. I though to myself maybe that would work for him. So what I did was found a bullseye clipart. I printed up probably 50 of them. So today he peed in the toilet all day! He stayed dry until 6:00. We had people over, he was watching tv and I forgot to ask him if he needed to pee so I can't really blame him. I am so thrilled! He loved peeing on the targets.

More good news Will has a third tooth! This one is on top. I think he's going to wean himself soon. He will only nurse for a few minutes and then is horribly cranky. I just don't think he's getting enough. I nursed him this afternoon for about 5 minutes then he refused to nurse anymore. He was still so cranky so I made him a 6 ounce bottle and he downed it in minutes. Then he was really happy.

Ellie however wants nothing to do with a bottle. She would rather not eat and wait for me to get home than take a bottle. It will be weird to have one on a bottle and one nursing.

Anyone else wean one and continue to nurse the other?

Tubby, Huggy, and Betty

So Ben has some new friends. Their names are Tubby, Huggy and Betty. They are imaginary. I heard about Tubby first. (As in "You're going down, Tubby" - see Benisms) I "met" Betty yesterday. He kept telling me how much he missed Betty. He wanted to go see her but he couldn't because Daddy was at work and she lived in the forest. He wanted to call her but his play cell phone was broken. We were sitting in the living room and all of a sudden he says "There's Betty!" I said "Where's Betty?" He said "She's in my room" So he ran down the hall to "get" her. Poor Bettty fell into the "mud" in the hallway. So he had to give her a "bath" after she had her bath he had to dry her off then she had to go to bed. Coming back down the hall she fell again but this time not in the mud. She did need a bandaid. Betty turned out to be pretty clumsy. She fell quite a few times and needed a bunch of pretend bandaids. She had to come to the bathroom with us when Ben had to go potty (BTW Potty training is going AWESOME!! He consistently poops in the potty. We're still working on peeing in the toilet.)  I accidently forgot her in the bathroom so we had to go back and get her. Then later she had to go potty. Ben helped her up on the toilet but when she was done I got the privelage of wiping her butt. (How many of you can say you've wiped an imaginary friend's butt? I've now wiped TWO! I got to wipe Huggy's today)

Huggy came over today. Huggy was a lot quieter. She (all three of them are girls) would show up randomly. We'll see if Tubby comes over tomorrow.

I love seeing his imagination working. It's so much fun.

Ears, Throat, Thighs and Poop

How's that for a catchy title. It draws you right in doesn't it? Makes you wonder how they all connect. Well let me tell you...

We'll start with the poop, just because. Ben seems to have decided to potty train himself. We tried for a little while but he didn't seem interested and I got overwhelmed with the thought of potty training him and dealing with the twins. On Friday he told him he was poopy so I laid him down to change his diaper. I opened his diaper and he was clean. I said "Do you want to go potty on the toilet?" He said "yep" so he jumped up and ran down the hall buck naked (is it buck naked or butt naked? Butt naked makes more sense to me since his butt was in fact naked but I believe buck naked is the proper - if either way is really "proper" - way to say it.) He climbed up on the potty and actually pooped! Then Saturday he did it again 3 times. Sunday was the same thing (even twice at church) and today he's gone on the potty 3 more times. I haven't had to change a size 4 poopy diaper in 4 days! (I have had to change many newborn and size one diapers). Peeing on the potty is another story so we are still in diapers (sometimes pullups) but we are definately on our way!!

Next we'll go to the thighs. That is where the babies got their 4 month old vaccinations :( Two shots each. Good news Will is now 13 lbs 5oz and 24 inches long. He is in the 25% now! Will is definately my little chunky boy :) Ellie is 10lbs 9oz!!! and 22 inches long. She is still in the 5% but she's finally in double digits!! They have both over doubled their birth weights!

On to the throat. The Zantac hasn't seem to be working as well as it used to. Will has been pretty grumpy lately. He was on .7ml 2x a day. I talked to the doctor today and we are upping it to .9ml 2x a day. Hopefully that will help. He's still a million times better than he was before we started the Zantac.

Last up is the ears. Ellie has been screaming a lot lately (well since Friday) I thought maybe she was either developing reflux like Will (she has always spit up alot) or maybe she was getting sick. At the doctors today they took her temp and it was 99 under her arm (Which from what I've read is the least accurate way to take a temperature but that's neither here nor there) He looked in her right ear and it was perfect but when he tried to look in her left she screamed at him. I held her and he looked again. He said her ear looks a little "fussy" but he can't say 100% if it's the beginning of an ear infection or the end. He doesn't want to medicate her unnecessarily so if she's still in pain tomorrow or the next day then I'm to bring her back and just take her back to the back. I don't even have to check in he will just see her and check her ear again. Right now I'm rotating between Tylenol and Motrin. (partially for the ear infection and partially for the shots) I do love my Ped because he doesn't just automatically medicate them at every little cough or sneeze. Also if he doesn't put them on medication he will usually tell me to just bring them back in a day or so if they are still acting like they are in pain and he will see them without a copay. Which is awesome especially with three kids.

I hate having sick kids. I'm hoping she will feel better tomorrow but I have a feeling I will be in the doctor's office tomorrow or the next day.

Also, On Sunday (Aug 24th) we are having the twins blessed (It's like a christening. They give the baby a name and a blessing on the records of the church) It will be at my parents house (so if you live in the area you are more than welcome to attend. It will be at 1:00 or so. drop me an email and I will give you directions if you don't already have them. You don't have to be Mormon to come.) But I found the most beautiful blessing dress that I wanted to buy.
But it was $149.00 I couldn't justify it. So we found some lace at JoAnn's that is gorgeous and my mom made one. She is almost finished with it and I will post pictures of it. It only cost us $70 (still outrageous but oh well) It is so beautiful and I can't wait to put Ellie in it.
